1946 commercial usage of Australian KGVI 5½d Registration Envelope uprated with 1d x3, three different US tax or Customs Duty cachets all in purple, perfectly centred (we know it's important to US clients) 10c Prexie tied to the reverse by 'GRASS VALLEY CALIFORNIA/MO' cds also in purple, minor blemishes. A rare & most unusual Prexie usage. [The sender was a Melbourne stamp dealer & the packet probably contained purchases or approvals] Neither Roland Rustad in 'The Prexies' nor Richard Helbock in 'Prexie Postal History' record or even intimate at such a usage existing. Helbock, however, does illustrate a cover with 2c x5 paying the Custome Duty charge. Clearly, it's a rare beastie.
