Crocker Type I, neatly canceled by part of red "Honolulu Hawaiian-Islands" cds (Type 236.11) at left leaving numeral and labels completely visible; stamp has been skillfully repaired with margins mostly added and portions of framelines painted in, as well as small portion of postmark, Very Fine appearance, ex-Ayer, Ishikawa, Pietsch, Twigg-Smith and Collier, with 2007 P.F. certificate.

Crocker type II, tied to small piece, tied by partial San Francisco red "8" in circle rating handstamp and manuscript. ink mark, canceled by bold Honolulu seven-bar grid cancel, beautiful full margins all around except tiny notch at bottom left, strong impression with bright color, sound and F.-V.F., Siegel Hawaii Missionary Census as 4-II-PCE-188 which incorrectly states minor faults, with 1987 Peter Holcombe, 1987 Enzo Diena, 2016 P.S.E. and P.F. certificates.

ONE OF ONLY A HANDFUL SOUND 13¢ "H.I. & U.S. POSTAGE" MISSIONARIES EXISTING, AND ONE OF ONLY FOUR EXAMPLES DOCUMENTED ON-PIECE.

A EARLY THIRD TREATY PERIOD MIXED FRANKING WITH HAWAIIAN 1853 13¢ KAMEHAMEHA III ISSUE OVERPAYING THE NEW 5¢ RATE AFTER THE APRIL 1855 RATE CHANGE.

This letter was carried on the American brig "Agate", leaving Honolulu on the 10th of December and arriving in San Francisco on December 27, 1855. It was then sent for the east coast and postmarked on January 5th.

Carried aboard on the schooner "E. L. Frost" which left Honolulu on October 4th 1854 and arrived in San Francisco on October 28th. It was then sent via Panama aboard the "John L. Stephens" which departed on November 1st. (Gregory census no. 13-8).
