1906, United States, local stamps. The elusive Johnston-Dienstag special service label (Mosner No. JSDD-1), issued in the wake of the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco, extra fine used with 19. October 1906 CDS and quite possibly the finest copy extant. The Johnston-Dienstag Company delivered letters to city addresses after the April 1906 earthquake, using this stamp, of which very few copies have survived. All cancellations known are from October 1906. On 27 December 1906 the US Post Office and Secret Service confiscated and destroyed the stamps printing plates. (Image)
