Two Confederate States Covers, the first was mailed from Montgomery Alabama on FEB.25.1861 and addressed to New Orleans Louisiana. Franked with a (faulty) 3c Washington, it was mailed shortly after Montgomery became the first Capital of the Confederate States of America (Feb 4th). Few tears on back, else very fine. Also included is a cover mailed from "...TERS..." on the same day (FEB.25, year unknown) and addressed to North Carolina. This one is franked with an imperforate Confederate issue #11. Bit of age stains, fine. (Image)

1855 Cover from USA to PEI, mailed from Cloverport, Kentucky on SEP.27.1855 and addressed to Charlottetown. Franked with a sheet margin block of 3c Washington imperforates (Type II, with some faults), each cancelled and tied to cover with three better than usual strikes of Prince Edward Island datestamps dated OCT.12.1855. Back has same datestamp (same date) plus a St John New Brunswick OCT 7 and a blue St Andrews NB datestamp dated OCT 3 (or 8?). There is a notation "per Steamer to Boston". Lots of edge wear and overall aging, but a scarce franking (we have not seen more than a pair on cover) and destination. From the Louis S. Crosby collection, see introduction in PEI section of this sale. (Image)

Group of Covers, 1880s to 2000s, mostly displayed in clack stock sheets in a thick binder (about 205 #8 covers, mostly from the 1880s to 1940s), plus some loose (about 123 covers, including about 30 oversize and some fronts). The binder contains mostly covers collected for interesting usages (registered, special delivery, airmail, first flights, etc.), postmarks (note better early machines, duplex, etc.), frankings (note many 1901 Exposition, Pan Americans, Columbian Expositions, 1930-32 airmails, etc.), destinations (Austria, a good proportion mailed to Canada, etc.).
