United States of America: 1765 British Revenues for use in America, “AMERICA” die “A” embossed 2s.6d. on blue, six examples on piece, each with "GR" cypher label on reverse, numbered 137 ,138, 163, 157, 158 and 183 respectively, central vertical fold, together with original 1854 (May 22-23) letter (with Inland Revenue internal c.d.s.) and ‘Paid’ envelope (roughly opened) from John Wood to the Marquess of Stafford, accompanying the “Stamps struck for the imposition of taxes on America and which led to the independence of the United States”. Also a copy of “The Stamps that Caused the American Revolution: The Stamps of the 1765 British Stamp Act for America” by Adolph Koeppel (1976, hardbound).
