Ephemera -- U.S. War Department 1899 final statement for discharge pay Statement is for Private John Taylor for "service honest and faithful, entitled to travel pay". However will be docked $3.25 due to US for ordinance. Taylor was with Troop A, 9th Regiment Cavalry under then Captain Joseph Garrard. Garrard has signed the document. Joseph Garrard of Kentucky as appointed to the United States Military Academy, 1 July 1869. Service record: Second Lieutenant, 4th U. S. Artillery, 13 June 1873; First Lieutenant, 1 August 1875; Transferred to the 9th U. S. Cavalry 8 February 1886 Regimental Adjutant, 9 May to 10 December 1888; Captain, 10 December 1888 Major, 2 February 1901 Lieutenant Colonel, 14th U. S. Cavalry, 22 April 1903; Commanded Fort Myer, Virginia, as a Colonel, 1909-1913. Died 2 April 1924 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Excellent military memorabilia item. (Image1)
