Interesting and ornate 1865 cover. Addressed "To the Register of the Circuit Court for the County Of Kalamazoo in Chancery, Kalamazoo, State of Michigan". On the back, written in ink, "Received by Mail opened and filed August 24th 1865, James W. Hopkins, Depty Register". Stamps are both fine and tied by blue fancy cancellation and partial CDS. The cover is also wrapped with pink ribbon adhered with red, stamped sealing wax. Wrinkles, soiling and other faults but very unique. (Est $100-150)

Michigan 1802 Northwest Territory Folded Letter - written in Detroit by a missionary and then sent to a minister in Pennsylvania. It was carried to Niagara, NY where it was mailed. The first US Post Office in Michigan (Detroit) was not established until January, 1803. Stamped "Niagara" cancel along with a manuscript "25". Small tears from opening at wax seal and a few toning spots. (Est $50-100)

1880's Elaborate Maine Land Scam Advertising Cover And Contents - In the 1880's N. S. Read purchased 500 acres of mostly bog land and untamed forest in Maine, named it "Lakenwild" and created a promotional campaign to sell lots to unsuspecting buyers. Included is an beautiful 24 page pamphlet, large detailed map with lot availability, lot order blank and return envelope. The envelope used to mail the contents, not surprisingly, came postage due.
