U.S, 1937, NORTHWEST TERRITORY RE-ENACTMENT LETTERS, includes 44 letters. In 1837 a group of settlers travelled from Peabody MA to the Northwest Territory in Ohio. They arrived in Marietta spring of the next year wintering along the way, and built a boat to take them down the Ohio River for the last section of the In 1937 a group recreated the journey even building a river boat by themselves the same way as the original settlers and arrived in Marrietta the following Spring. These letters were written by the group signed as members of the original party. Each letter is postmarked by the city where it was written not the day the group was actually there.
