Lot No:304

Cat No:1890 $2 Treas

1890 $2 Treasury Note F-353 S/N A2227602* VF or nearly so. Lovely example of the "ornate" back variety issued in 1890 in accordance with the Sherman Silver Purchase Act passed that year to appease western silver producers. The Treasury paid for the silver it was required to purchase under the Act with these notes and the subsequent 1891 issue. President Grover Cleveland repealed the Sherman Silver Purchase Act in 1893 severely reducing silver dollar production for the next three years. The 1890 Ornate back notes are far scarcer than the 1891 issues. Seldom offered and worthy of a generous bid.
