Two covers, first with black printed frank (TRC-001) with illustration of locomotive and four freight cars on 3¢ pink (U35) entire cancelled by manuscript "November 30/64" postmark to San Jose, accompanied by Truman & Co's Express blue frank (TRE-001a) with illustration of locomotive and two freight cars on 3¢ pink (U59) buff entire cancelled by manuscript "Feb 28th/65" postmark to San Jose, Very Fine pair of illustrated express frank covers.

Truman Expresses were the first express in California that used the railroad for transportation. Truman carried express matter on the San Francisco and San Jose railroad. Wells Fargo forced them off the railroad in 1865.

(San Jose) San Jose Collection, 1848-1900s. Collection of 38 covers mounted on album pages, noted includes 1851 postmaster free frank, 1851 unpaid and paid manuscript. "12½" rates, 1850-51 unpaid and paid manuscript. "40" rates, 1850s use of 1¢ and three 3¢ 1851 issue to Philadelphia, three patriotic usages but two appear to have 10¢ added, 1863 used with #68 on U41 entire to Philadelphia, #78 on 1864 cover to England, #146 (2), 150 on cover to Italy, and some better advertising covers including illustrated designs, also includes a group of 6 early letters like 1849 Presbyterian Church, 1852 Jacob B Hoppe who was the first postmaster of San Jose and 1850 purchase agreement for San Jose City Hall; some faults, F.-V.F., an excellent collection worthy of expansion.
