S.S "Ibex" Wreck Mail

1900 Front of a wrapper from London to "Brees Royal Hotel, St. Helier, Jersey", no stamps and some edge faults, endorsed by the recipient "Recovered from wreck of G.W.Rly S.S Ibex lost off Guernsey about 28/12/99, received 14/1/1900" with first (larger) type "MAIL PER S.S. IBEX"; and a single Dutch 21/2c stamp with a partial strike of the second type "SS IBEX" cachet, probably washed off a letter and found loose in one of the mail bags. Also photos of the ship in 1895 and after being raised in 1900, picture postcards (2) and reproduction photos of the ship, and a part letter on illustrated "Old Government House" notepaper headed "S.S Ibex in sight of Weymouth". 1900 Cover from Teignmouth to John Tooth in London redirected with London W.C c.d.s (Jan 4) to "Rozel Manor, Jersey", the stamp washed off but otherwise in remarkably good condition, handstamped second type "MAIL PER SS IBEX". The reverse bearing a "Found Open and Officially Sealed" label with Jersey JY 30 (6 PM) c.d.s, from the final mail bag found on the ship after it was raised and brought into St. Peter Port at the end of July. Also a cutting from a philatelic magazine reproducing a letter from the brother of the recipient of this cover concerning this very item. Fine and rare. Photo on Page 172. (Image1)
