Confederacy, Point Lookout, Md. Orange prisoner-of-war cover bearing 3¢ rose (65), couple short perfs, tied by target cancel duplexed with "Point Lookout Md. Apr 5" cds to Pittsylvania C.H. Va., endorsed "P.M. Martin, Lt Col, 53d Va Vols, Pris: of War" at left, manuscript "By Flag of Truce Through Comdg off: Fortress Monroe" endorsement at top, large oval "Approved J. N. Patterson Capt. & Provost Marshal Point Lookout, Md." examiner's handstamp (Type 1), exchanged via Old Point Comfort and Richmond with "Richmond Va., May 6" cds and matching "Due 10" handstamp for Confederate postage, Very Fine and choice prisoner-of-war use with the large J.N. Patterson examiner's handstamp.

Lt. Col. Rawley White Martin of the 53rd Virginia Volunteers (Armistead's Brigade) was wounded during Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg and was by certain accounts the first man over the wall during that climactic battle, he survived and lived nearly another 50 years.

Prisoner of war combination cover franked with United States 1861 3¢ rose (65, small defect) tied by target cancel and Rock Island, Ill., Mar. 19, '64 double circle postmark, cover addressed to Alabama with Rock Island Barracks, Approved Prisoner's Letter examined marking, used in combination with Confederate States of America 1863 10¢ blue (12, right margin single with large margins) tied by Richmond, Va., Apr. 23 cds, flap missing & tiny reduction at top (not mentioned on clear cert.), Very Fine and rare, ex-Antrim, Hart, with 1987 C.S.A. certificate.
