1780 (Apr 1) Entire letter from Southampton written by the forwarding agent P. Seward, sent together with a box from London, the letter addressed "Mrs Sausmarez, Guernsey, P. Packett", file folds and staining caused by some internal tape strengthening of the folds. The cutter "Express" sailed between Southampton and the Channel Islands during the 1778-83 war with France, mainly carrying military mails. Other letters were occasionally carried by this packet, but are very scarce.

An important Act that established Post Offices in Jersey and Guernsey and a packet service between Weymouth and Guernsey.
