Well centered with vibrant color, cancelled by manuscript squiggle on War Department Adjutant General's Office Official Business cover with light purple four-line penalty imprint handstamp from Washington D.C. to Savannah Ga., purple "Registered, May 8 1878, Washington, D.C." three-line postmark; slightly rough opening at right, still a Very Fine and rare 10¢ use.

The penalty imprint handstamp paid the postage but did not cover the registry fee, which was paid by the 10c stamp. This is an early War Department penalty use.
