Bouton's Franklin City Despatch Post, 1847 (2¢) black on green, manuscript "Bouton" (Scott 16L1a), three good margins, cut just to inner frame line at the top, uncanceled, as always, on a complete 1847 folded letter from New York City to North Stamford, Ct. with a red "New-York/5 Cts" c.d.s., Jun 25; last name of addressee eradicated, "stamp with small repairs at top and bottom left and additional creases and scuff" as per the accompanying certificate; cover Very Fine and attractive. The interesting, easily read three-page letter is from a struggling teacher to his brother, urgently requesting a loan of $10., ex Chapman, Erivan.

An exceedingly rare cover. The Philatelic Foundation has certified only this cover and three off-cover examples without the manuscript "Bouton"
.

City Despatch Post, 1842, 3¢ black on grayish, pre-printing paper folds (Scott 40L1), unused without gum, a massive stamp with nearly complete guidelines all around, remarkably bright for this issue; the appeal is heightened by the two pre-printing paper folds: the canyon through "THREE CENTS", plus a smaller diagonal crease at lower left, Extremely Fine, rarely are these so pretty—and with so much additional eye-appeal, with 2008 P.F. certificate.
