1918 Aerial League Of America Cover with Contents, Sep 18/Dec 18 First Trip - 1918 Aerial League of America “First Trip” cover bearing 6¢ Curtiss Jenny (Scott #C1). The cover is accompanied by original contents, including a generic typed letter explaining membership with by-laws (dated Dec 18, 1918), a membership acceptance letter (dated Sept 18, 1918), membership card, and return envelope. Augustus Post signature on the letter, who was the 13th person to fly solo. Other claims to fame include being the first person to get a parking citation in New York, Official Timer on the Wright Brothers record setting flight in 1908. He wrote the rules for the Orteig prize for the 1927 Lindbergh flight as well as founding AAA and the Aeroclub of America, as well as being a record-setting balloonist. Unfortunately the cover is poor condition (tears and stains) but together with the contents, this is still a wonderful piece of very early airmail history. Examine. (Est $100-200) (Image)
