Confederacy, 11-Star Confederate Flag and Verse. Patriotic design on homemade cover with "Richmond Va. Apr. 28, 1863" cds with "Due 10" straightline to Little Yadkin N.C., soldier's endorsement from 33rd North Carolina Regiment at bottom left, original letter datelined "Camp near Fredericksburg Apr. the 18, 1863", content includes references to a U.S. Army observation balloon across the lines, backflap tears, Very Fine, ex-Wishnietsky.
Estimate; $1,000 - 1,500.

This cover and letter entered the mails only two days before the start of the Battle of Chancellorsville, the sender and the 33rd North Carolina fought in the battle as part of A.P. Hill's Division in Stonewall Jackson's Second Corps, Chancellorsville would be Jackson's last battle for the Confederacy.

Three-line imprint on legal-size blue cover with "Richmond Va., Jun 25 1861" cds and matching "Paid 10" in circle rating handstamp to Capt. T. Lewis, A.C. Subs., New Orleans La., manuscript "charge Treas Dept," at top left; reduced slightly at left, Very Fine.
C.S.A. Catalog No. TD-36 var.; $350 as normal.

Very similar to TD-36, but this imprint has the "S" of "SECOND" under "s" of "Treasury". Ashbrook pencil note "Early Use June 1861".
