(15) A full set of the Jan. 14th 1779 issue (the last) of the famed Continental. Incl $1, $2, $3, $4, $5, $20, $30, $35, $40, $45, $50, $55, $60, $65, $70, & $80 notes grades F to XF. Originally issued in May of 1775 by the fledgling US Treasury to finance the Revolutionary War, lack of adequate gold and silver reserves lead to inconsistent redemption, causing the public to eventually refuse them in the channels of commerce. Due to the failure of the Continental, the US government would not sanction any issue of paper money again until 1862, when Legal Tender Notes were reluctantly issued to help finance the Civil War. (9) A full set of the March 25th, 1776 issue of New Jersey NJ-175 thru NJ-183. Incl 1s, 18d, 2s, 3s, 6s, 12s, 15s, 30s, 3 Pound, & 6 Pound notes grades F to AU. The 15s note is signed by John Hart (1714 - 1779) a signer of the Declaration of Independence for NJ. A very nice set of notes w/ the high denominations nearly CU. Inspect! (Image)
