Confederate -- 1862 Navasota Texas 25c payable to bearer on demand note Draft says: Due the bearer twenty-five cents payable in currency when twenty dollars are presented. Illegible signature. Item in delicate condition. Navasota Texas an important shipping and marketing center during the Civil War. Guns were made in nearby Anderson, and cotton, gunpowder, and shoes were made, processed and stored there for the Confederacy. All the marketable goods produced in the region were brought to Navasota, then the furthest inland railhead in Texas, to be shipped south to Galveston, for transport by steamboat from the Texas coast and up the Mississippi River to the war effort.
