Armstrong, Neil, (1930-2012), American astronaut and aeronautical engineer who in 1969 (as mission commander of the Apollo 11 flight) became the first person to walk on the moon. Signed photograph of the astronaut along with a letter stating the reason he "no longer autographs items of philatelic nature"; plus a large folded poster printed in 1973 of the Apollo crew and their history. Friendly Typewritten Letter Signed "Norman Rockwell," ½ page, small 8vo, Stockbridge, MA, January 23, 1973. He tells a collector, "…I have autographed the stamp blocks as requested. Shepard, Alan; also Carter B. Smith and Jerry Lewis, Alan Shepard (1923-1998) was the first American astronaut in space (in 1961) and in 1971 became the fifth (and oldest) man to walk on the moon, limited edition signed cover no. 66/150. This envelope was on board the Mercury Space capsule as it served as the broadcast vehicle for Carter B. Smith's 24 hour Radiothon for MDA on KNBR Radio 68 on Sept 2-3 (6pm - 6pm) 1979.
