1919, 2¢ carmine rose, type II, rotary coil waste, perf 11 x 10. Top margin plate no. "7463" and "S 20" block of 4, full o.g., bright vivid color on fresh paper, usual centering for this notoriously off-centered issue, Fine, with 2006 P.S.E. certificate.
Scott No. 539; $17,500 for the grade of fine.

AN EXTREMELY RARE PLATE BLOCK OF THE 1919 2¢ TYPE II ROTARY COIL WASTE ISSUE - ONLY A HANDFUL OF EXAMPLES ARE KNOWN TO EXIST.

This series was issued in June of 1919 and is the result of 170 subject coil sheets which had been perforated 10 vertically, but were remainders or and oversupply. The sheets were taken and perforated 11 horizontally on a flat plate perforator and issued in sheets of 170 subjects. Many sheets were defective as far as coil production was concerned but could be saved as sheet stamps. Two plates were used in the production of the 2¢ type II issues, plate "7462" and "7463" which both bear the "S 20" imprint.

1923, 1¢ green, rotary sheet waste, perf 11. Neat duplex cancel, perfectly centered amid wide well balanced margins, strong color, an Extremely Fine gem, with 2014 P.F. certificate.
Scott No. 544; $3,750.

WITHOUT QUESTION ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES OF THE 1923 1¢ PERF 11 ROTARY SHEET WASTE ISSUE.

A small quantity of 1¢ Rotary Press stamps was perforated 11 at the end of 1922, using remainder sheets from the earlier printings that were normally perforated in 10 gauge or 11/10 compound gauge. Most of the recorded copies of Scott 544 are off-center or have been damaged as a result of lower production standards and poor handling. The issue normally comes with much narrower margins at sides. The example offered here, with wide margins all around, is certainly one of the finest copies in existence.
