During May, 1874, and probably spread over a period into early 1875, the Morgan Envelope Co., acting under orders of the Post Office Department, produced a number of proofs on a variety of differently colored card stock, all without watermark. These were produced with the regular 36-subject plate forms and usually in the normal color ink. It is, however, generally believed that the card stock used would have been much smaller, resulting in a printing using only a portion of the printing form. USPCC $1,500
