1869, 15¢ brown & blue, type II. Nicely centered with deep rich colors, tied by stylized leaf handstamp on 1869 cover to Paris, France, bold red "New York, Paid 12, Jul 24" exchange cds, carried aboard the steamer St. Laurent arriving at Brest on August 3rd, red boxed "PD" and blue obsolete "Etats-Unis, Paq. Fr., Brest, 5 Aout, 69" entry date stamp both additionally tying stamp, Very Fine and choice, a rare direct French packet usage, illustrated in M. Laurence Ten-Cent 1869 Covers (page 151), ex-Hill, Haas & Walske.
Scott No. 119; Estimate $750 - 1,000.

This Brest datestamp was used from 1865 to 1866 and was applied in Paris only for this later sailing. This was most likely due to the normal "Ligne H" date stamp or the mail agent was not on the St. Laurent.
