Hawaii, 1861, 5¢ blue, thin bluish paper. Left margins single with clear to huge margin showing part of adjacent stamp at top, faint corner crease, tied by red "Honolulu, Hawaiian-Islands, Nov 23" cds on cover to Brooklyn, N.Y., clear "San Francisco, Cal., Dec 5, 1861" cds with matching "Ship" straight line and "12" rate handstamps; cover with a couple opening edge nicks expertly restored at top, otherwise Very Fine, ex-Meyers, with 1976 R.P.S. and 1980 P.F. certificates (neither mentioning repairs).

This cover was carried aboard the American bark "Comet" departing Honolulu on November 23rd 1861 and arriving in San Francisco on December 4th.

On cover to Pheobe Hughes, Richmond Ind., canceled by square grid cancel, in combination with U.S. 5¢ brown (76), scissor trimmed perfs at left, tied by cogwheel fancy cancel, postmarked red "Hawaii, Honolulu, U.S. Postage Paid, Jun 18" cds (HON US34) and matching bold "San Francisco, Cal, Jul 9 1864" double-circle datestamp; bottom flap missing, Very Fine, ex-Peters, with 1978 H.P.S., 1978 and 2015 P.F. certificates.

A RARE COMBINATION USE OF THE 1857 5¢ KAMEHAMEHA III THIRD PRINTING WITH THE U.S. 5¢ BROWN 1861 ISSUE.

This cover was carried by American bark "Onward" from Honolulu Jun. 18th to San Francisco arriving Jul. 9th. Letter was postmarked Jul. 9th at San Francisco for the overland mail.
