(Texas) (Republic) 1837 Incoming to Peach Point, Texas. Folded letter with light strike of red "Gambier, O. Dec 1" cds and matching "25" rating handstamp, endorsed "Care of Jame, Recd, N Orleans La." at bottom left, "SAM RICKER JR., AGENT OF THE TEXIAN POST OFFICE DT. NEW ORLEANS" double-oval, light manuscript "Unpaid / " rating crossed out, manuscript "Houston, Jany 15/38" postmark and matching "Ship 43¾" rating, letter was from Guy Morrison Bryan who was attending Kenyon College back home to his stepmother Emily Perry; overall toning, F.-V.F. and scarce Texas Republic use.
Estimate; $300 - 400.

Emily Perry was Stephen Austin's sister and Austin lived with the Perry family at Peach Point. Stephen Fuller Austin was an American impresario known as the "Father of Texas", and the founder of Texas. He led the second, and ultimately, the successful colonization of the region by bringing 300 families from the United States to the region in 1825.
