Packet Steamer Amanda. Bold strike of blue oval handstamp on 1854, 3¢ Nesbitt entire (U10) to New Orleans with black cds & matching straight line "Steam" handstamp, Extremely Fine and choice, a lovely cover, ex-Hill.
Milgram No. 42; Estimate $300 - 400.

"Amanda" of 142 gross tons was built at Louisville in 1852 for the Mobile - New Orleans trade. In April 1857, she was purchased by Henry Tucker with Capt. N.C. Briggs as Master operating on the Red River.

Steamer Illinois. Printed schedule on reverse of orange cover bearing 3¢ rose (65) tied by "Detroit Mich. Aug 5" cds to Cleveland Oh.; some soiling and light stains on front, otherwise Very Fine and scarce.
