Manuscript postmark (TUO-1160, R7) on 1851 folded letter (written from Montezuma, 3 years before PO opened) to Monterey, California with "12 ½" rate, letter with interesting content including…There is a great deal of shooting and stealing done about here, a peaceable traveler is not harmed., Very Fine, the earliest of only two recorded during the 40¢ rate period, ex-Marden Ross.

Manuscript postmark (YUB-570, R5) and matching "Paid 10¢" rating cover to Fairplay Wisc., with original lengthy enclosure datelined "Emery Crossing March 31st 1857" with some interesting content including the failure of Adams & Co., Extremely Fine, a wonderfully choice example of this rare postmark.
Estimate; $300 - 400.

Emery's Crossing post office was open from Jun. 2nd 1855 to July 15th 1858 with only manuscript postmarks of "Emerys xing" and "Emery's Crossing" known from Feb. 2nd 1856 to Sep. 16th 1857.

Bold integral west coast rate cds (YUB-820, R5) on folded letter to San Francisco, datelined "Long Bar, Yuba River, California, March 19th, 1851" and includes a small cache with seeds (wild seeds for the area) in a small bit a newspaper, Very Fine, a rare integral 12½ rate postmark from Marysville used for a short time between February and June of 1851.

(Yuba) Owsley's Bar, Cal., Aug 8th, 1864. Manuscript postmark (YUB-1230, R5) on cover to Cartesburg, N.H., franked with manuscript canceled 1861, 3¢ rose; minor cover edge wear, Very Fine, the earliest of two known postmarks from Owsley's Bar and the only posted prior to the official opening of the post office in December of 1855.
Scott No. 65; Estimate $300 - 400.

Owsley's Bar was named after Dr. Owsley who, combining prospecting with his medical practice, discovered gold there in 1849. Was located on the Yuba river miles east of Marysville.
