N.y., Grand Central Annex, Jun 26" duplex on airmail cover to Prisoner of War, American Military Internee, Camp Maloney, Adelboden, Switzerland, U.S. censor tape at left, German censor tape and handstamps on flap, magenta "Zuzustellen, Feldpostdirektica" framed handstamp, Very Fine.

Camp Moloney was named for Sgt. Joe Moloney, the first American to die in Switzerland during World War II. Located in Adelboden, it was the first internment camp for American internees. Initially all American internees were sent to Adelboden, but soon other camps were established to accommodate larger numbers of internees.

ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE SOLO 17¢ LOCAL REGISTERED RATE.

Cover prepaid 17¢ for 2¢ local rate plus 15¢ minimum registry fee. The other recorded example of this rate, the June 10th 1941 ex-Suffet example noted as one of the keys to his landmark collection, was recently offered at auction realizing $3,600.

ONE OF THE RAREST PREXIE SOLO USES IN EXISTENCE, THE 22¢ REGISTERED LOCAL USE WITH RETURN RECEIPT FEE.

Cover prepaid 22¢ for two-times the 2¢ local rate, 3¢ return receipt fee and 15¢ no indemnity registry fee. The rates were in effect through March 25, 1944. This solo use was missing from the great Suffet collection.

Two singles, used with 10¢ Prexie (815), all tied by two strikes of "Springfield Mo., Dec 8, 1941" duplex on air mail cover to Hong Kong, China for the 70¢ Trans-Pacific rate, "Examined By 1652" censor tape at left, purple "Returned to Sender, Service Suspending." two-line handstamp, Very Fine and choice.

AN EARLY SERVICE SUSPENDED TRANS-PACIFIC USE SENT THE DAY AFTER THE JAPANESE ATTACK ON PEARL HARBOR WHEN TRANS-PACIFIC SERVICE WAS SUSPENDED.

After the Japanese December 7th 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, trans-Pacific flights west from Hawaii ceased. Mail to Japanese-occupied places was returned to the senders, as was the case with this cover addressed to Hong Kong. Mail to other places was rerouted for transatlantic transport to the destinations.

1938, 50¢ Presidential. Vertical pair, used with two 10¢ Prexie (815) singles, all tied by strikes of "New York, Morgan Annex, Feb 24, 1944" duplex on large-size green Red Cross envelope from Prisoner of War Camp, Camp Swift, Texas to Geneva, Switzerland at four-times the 30¢ per ½ oz. airmail rate, "U.S. Censorship, Examined by 503" circular handstamp, Very Fine.

Although normal air mail service to Switzerland was suspended from November 1942 to June 1945, express messages from POW's addressed to International Red Cross were allowed to pass through. This outer envelope was send from Camp Swift, Texas, censored in New York by POW censors and entered the mail stream at the 30¢ per ½ oz. rate.
