Scissor separated with perfs clipped from the top, in combination with 1857, 3¢ dull red (26, s.e. at right) on cover to Bangkok, Thailand from the House correspondence, tied by red grid handstamps with matching "New Haven, Con., Nov 8, 1858" origin cds, endorsed "via Southampton & Singapore", "28" cent credit rating and "12" rating handstamp obliterated by grid handstamp, red London Paid transit cds, red "Boston Br. Pkt., Nov 9" exchange backstamp, docketed as received January 16, 1860 on reverse; address panel and endorsement lightened, F.-V.F., a scarce use to Siam.

Cover was prepaid at the 33¢ British mail rate via Southampton effective April 1, 1858 to August 30, 1861. The 28¢ credit to Great Britain was 16¢ transatlantic plus 12¢ British transit.

AN EXCEPTIONAL 24¢ 1860 ISSUE TRANSATLANTIC USE CARRIED ON THE SPECIAL FINAL VOYAGE OF THE NORTH ATLANTIC STEAMSHIP CO. CARRYING BRITISH MAILS.

The "Adriatic" departure from New York on Mar. 9th 1861 was delayed as she had been sold to the Galway Line. Her mails were transferred to the Inman Line as a result. The "Adriatic" sailed from New York on March 13th bound for Southampton, where she was docked and surveyed before taking her place in the Galway Line. Incidentally, she carried the mails intended for the Cunarder "Australasian" which had failed to arrive at New York.
