1901/1903, 1st GERMAN SOUTH POLAR EXPEDITION ("GAUSS" EXPEDITION), clear strike of double ring circular "Deutsche Südpolar Expedition GAUSS" on address side of ppc "DEUTSCHE SÜDPOLAR-EXPEDITION" (showing explorers in Antarctic scenery), dated "St.Vincent Porto Grande 11.9.01" (São Vicente/Kap Verde) with greeting message and signatures of Dr. Friedrich Bidlingmaier (geophysicist and meteorologist), Ernst Vanhöffen (zoologist), Erich von Dygalski (expedition leader and geologist), addressed to the Count von Linden in Stuttgart/Germany with arrival mark 17.X.01, adhesive washed off and due to that only small part of postmark visible. Nevertheless attractive and unusual entire! (In addition blue circular letter seal "DEUTSCHE SÜDPOLAR EXPEDITION")

Swedish picture postcard "Svenska Sydpolarexpeditionen" showing the barque "ANTARCTIC", and sent from "Port Stanley (Falkland Islands), 19/8 02" to Göteborg. Corner crease. The item is accompanied by a detailed, pictured newspaper report (Göteborgs Posten, 1982 April 25). Very rare!

Most attractive entire, rarely seen registered mail!

November 1911" and Falklands 1d. red (applied inaccurately with paper fold - irrelevant), sent from "SOUTH GEORGIA DE 6 11" to SIR ERNEST SHACKLETON/London (famous British Polar Explorer). Message "a last farewell and best wishes to your and your wife" (in German) dated 4 Dec 1911 and signed by Dr. Wilhelm Filschner (expedition leader), Richard Vahsel (Captain, died 8 Aug 1912), Dr. Fritz Heim (geologist), Dr. Erich Barkow (meteorologist), Dr. Wilhelm Brennecke (oceanographer), Dr. Erich Przybyllok (astronomer and geomagnetic scientist), Dr. Felix König (alpinist), Dr. Ludwig Kohl (ship's doctor), Dr. Wilhelm von Goedel (ship's and expedition's doctor) on front and on reverse. Most unusual entire showing NINE different signatures of crew members to an appropriate address!
