Mail to Canada. 1848 (18 Nov.) and 1849 (4 Aug.) entire letters ex the Irving correspondence from Leogan, St. James to Manchester, Upper Canada, the first a double letter routed via Bermuda and Halifax to Quebec and Newmarket charged 6/4d. on arrival, the second "via England p packet" and rated "1/8" formed of inland "8" and packet "1/0" postage, sent by the Halifax Packet via Bermuda and handstamped in Canada "more to pay" and charged "2/9½" on arrival, seven transit datestamps on reverse; an interesting and unusual pair. Mail to Canada. 1851 (8 May) entire letter from Providence, St. James, Montego Bay to Kingston, then by Packet via St. Thomas to Halifax, back to Boston and cross border via Queenstown to a member of the Legislative Council at Toronto, paid 1/4d. double inland postage for travelling over 100 miles and 8d. ship letter charge for a total of 2/-, having travelled via Boston charged 20c. for an incoming ship letter and 1/- on arrival in Canada, showing Jamaica Paid, Boston and Queenstown datestamps, two different "u. states" horseshoe-framed handstamps, all on face and with Montego Bay, St. Thomas, Halifax and Toronto datestamps on reverse.
