Ecuador - Galapagos 1935, Barrel Post Office, black and white postcard with a picture of the barrel and FAHNESTOCK EXPEDITION cachet, left in the barrel and addressed to New York 1935, February 1, picked up and postmarked 1935, September 10 aboard RMS Maunganui (New Zealand naval ship), arrived in New York 1935, September 24. Mounted on album page. Described and pictured in detail by Dodd (pages 27-28), who describes the item as "the only example'' of mail posted in the barrel prior to 1936 that "I have noted so far''. Postcard with major thins/large surface rub, but a unique piece, and a key item of Galapagos postal history! Condition: Picture Post Card
