Cat No:99

ONE PENNY: 1d bright yellow-green SG 99 regular compound perf 11½-12½x10 plus De La Rue Perf 10 2d on cover with impressive 'ALBERT DISTRICT/No 83/NORTH ADELIADE/ IOR / SU/SOUTH AUSTRALIA' [Independent Order of Rechabites temperance society] embossing (spelling error) on the flap, to "Stafford Town/New Zealand", GPO cds of MY9/71 and 'NZ/HOKITIKA/MY20/71' arrival backstamp, light overall soiling & the embossing affected by an opening tear. A rare usage of the 3d inter-colonial rate 'across the ditch', especially so to a small New Zealand goldmining settlement. Ex Colonel Harry Napier.

Cat No:101

ONE PENNY: 1d deep green SG 101 block of 36 (9x4) mostly regular compound perf 11½-12½x10 but the 6th and 9th vertical lines of perfs are Perf 11½ which has created 16 irregular compound perf units, the horizontal perforating quite misaligned at places, small repair at upper-left, some trimmed perfs at the base and a few minor blemishes but generally very fine with large-part o.g. & about ten units unmounted, Cat £8100++, for unused singles. The largest recorded multiple and a spectacular exhibition piece. Ex Colonel Harry Napier (where it was mistakenly stated that the left-hand vertical perfs were also 11½). Harry Lower's mint block of 4 - graded 'A/A-' - sold to Michael Blake for $2330, and then for $3145. Harry Lower's mint block of 30 (10x3) of the Rouletted 1d SG 21 - graded 'A/C'; Cat £5400++ - sold for $16,890. [See the annotated illustration on our website: it is likely that the two irregular rows of Perf 11½-12½ were applied to correct otherwise 'imperforate-between' pairs]

Cat No:102 regular

THREE PENCE: '3-PENCE' on 4d ultramarine SG 102 regular compound perf 11½-12½x10, misplaced perforations so cut from the sheet at top and right to preserve the design, large-part o.g., Cat £650. A rare & underrated stamp. [Gibbons list this stamp as "pale ultramarine". In fact, most examples have full colour and some are quite deep]

Cat No:102 regular

THREE PENCE: '3-PENCE' on 4d ultramarine SG 102 regular compound Perf 11½-12½x10 a very scarce pair plus '3-PENCE' on 4d sky-blue Imperforate single SG 67a (marginal stamp from the left of the sheet with margins clear to huge & marginal vertical watermark lines at left, minor separation fault at lower-left; unpriced by Gibbons), on cover to England "via Brindisi", GPO cds of JU19/71 and London arrival cds of 8AU71 in red on the face, minor blemishes. An attractive cover of the highest importance. Ex Colonel Harry Napier and John Griffiths. Only one other SG 102 cover has been recorded. This is the only cover recorded with SG 67a and, obviously, the only cover known bearing both these stamps.
