Small Chalons selection with a beautiful Imperf 2d that of course has been rebacked, 'REGISTERED' plate proof block of 4 in black, reprinted die proof in green & a Truncated Star Wmk mint pair, 1d imperf plate proof marginal block of 20 (5x4; one of the largest surviving multiples) in Indian red with ruled pen-lines as always, two 2d blue blocks of 4 with large-part o.g., condition variable. 1882 Large Chalons 2/- imperf plate proof singles on ungummed unwatermarked paper in the approved colours for the 2/- to 10/- plus 2/6d in the approved colour for the £1. Rare. [The inclusion of the 2/6d in green is consistent with Basset Hull's statement at page 158 that this was the only colour in which the 2/6d was printed, and that there was no 2/- in this colour. Bernie Manning's similar very fine set sold for $4194. NB: the proofs were printed in London but the stamps were printed in Brisbane] (5)

1882-1911 Large Chalons beautiful collection beginning with 2/- imperforate plate proofs x15 in various colours including four pairs, 'SPECIMEN' Handstamps x19 with various orientations to £1 x5, then the issued stamps by value across all issues comprising 2/- x2 (demonstrating how scarce these are), 2/6d x67 including seven blocks of 4 (one punctured 'OS' with the Perfins Inverted & Reversed), 5/- x52 including two blocks of 4, 10/- x26 including a pair & a block of 4 plus a plate proof in green, and £1 x29 including a strip of 3 which includes the Major Re-Entry [R1/2] SG 312a plus perforated plate proofs in blue (aged) or brown-purple single (CTO) pair & strip of 3. All the shades of the 1907-11 Crown/A issue are present including the rare £1 deep yellowish green SG 312d x3 (Cat £1800 each) and the condition throughout is generally very fine to superb. An outstanding collection that can be seen as a Gold Medal-in-waiting but that still has scope for development into something truly exceptional. Ex Sir Gawaine Baillie, and still on his oversize pages as acquired in 2005 for $20,700. (Qty 217)

1897-1908 Figures in Four Corners 9d perforated essay in plum ACSC #Q43(E)1a with Double Perfs at Left, Cat $2500. Unissued design. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2015) states "Extremely rare with only several recorded" & "Unused without gum as made". [The ACSC notes that many of these essays were defaced with red-ink lines. This value was intended primarily for telegram payments. Instead, the 'COMMONWEALTH' Design 9d was issued]
