PUNCTURED 'OS': 1907-10 Small 'PAPUA' Watermark Sideways (Crown to Right of 'A' as seen from the reverse) Perf 12½ 6d black & myrtle-green SG O25 with variety Spot in Sky [Pos R4/5], two small violet ink marks on the reverse, 'PORT MORESBY/27NOV09/PAPUA' cds clear of the variety, Cat £1500+. [The cds pre-dates Croaker's issue date of December 1909, and is one day later than Peter Troy's example which sold at our auction of 28.7.2009 for $2185]
PUNCTURED 'OS': 1911-15 Monocolours Watermark Sideways Reversed (Crown to Right of 'A' as seen from the back) ½d yellow-green SG O38w marginal block of 6 from the left of the sheet, unmounted but the gum tropicalised with a couple of minor tonespots, Cat £510+ for used; unpriced mint (let alone unmounted). [See also next Lot]
PUNCTURED 'OS': 1911-15 Monocolours Watermark Sideways Reversed (Crown to Right of 'A' as seen from the back) ½d yellow-green SG O38w marginal corner block of 6 from the L/L of the sheet with 'JBC' Monogram below the central lower unit, unmounted but the gum tropicalised with a couple of very minor tonespots, Cat £510+ for used; unpriced mint (let alone unmounted with Monogram). [This block originally adjoined the base of the previous Lot]
PUNCTURED 'OS': 1911-15 Monocolours Watermark Sideways (Crown to Left of 'A' as seen from the reverse) 2½d bright blue as SG O41 but on Thin Paper block of 4, unmounted, minor toning mostly on the perf tips at left, the U/R unit very fine. With a Thick Paper 2½d ultramarine for comparison. [Rosenblum states at p29 regarding printings on Thin Paper that "A very few sheets of this stamp were issued, O.S. only, about 1918 ... They are unknown without the O.S. puncture and even in that condition are extremely rare" (our emphasis); he also mentions that the Thin Paper being whiter resulted in "greater clarity of the inks" which in turn produced distinctive shades]
PUNCTURED 'OS': 1911-15 Monocolours Watermark Sideways (Crown to Left of 'A' as seen from the reverse) 6d bright chestnut as SG O43 but on Thin Paper, lightly mounted, minor toning on a couple of perf tips at right. With a Thick Paper 6d brown for comparison. [Rosenblum states at p29 regarding printings on Thin Paper that "Again, a very few sheets were issued, O.S. only, about 1918. They are probably accounted for in exactly the same way as the 2½d and are equally rare" (our emphasis); he also mentions that the Thin Paper being whiter resulted in "greater clarity of the inks" which in turn produced distinctive shades]
PUNCTURED 'OS': 1916-31 Bicolours 6d dull purple & pale purple with 'POSTACE' at Left variety on the right-hand unit in a pair with a normal stamp SG O52/52a, unmounted, the non-variety unit with tone mark on gum, Cat £490+ for mounted.

1901-05 British New Guinea Watermark Vertical Thick Paper 2/6d black & brown SG 16, excellent centring, light 'PORT MORESBY/BRISIH NEW GUINEA' cds, Cat £4000. A superb & beautiful example of this rare stamp. BPA Certificate (1997) as the then SG 14b. Absent from Tim Rybak's collection. More attractive than the Paul Simonson/Tom Belknap/Peter Troy example that sold for $7280.
1901 British New Guinea 2/6d black & chocolate as SG 16 but a forgery by Jean de Sperati, a few short perfs at upper-right, superb part-strike of Sperati's bogus 10-bars 'BNG' cancel with the tell-tale short top bar & characteristically struck away from the vignette. Ex Paul Simonson (1981), Sir Gawaine Baillie and Peter Troy: sold for $2330. BPA Certificate - a "pinky" for a forgery! - (2001). [Roger Lee at page 100 states "I have seen only two examples..." However, Peter Troy accounted for seven examples: his two other examples each sold for $2680]
