1910 (c.) pair of real photo cards being different views of a crash between an 'M&MTB' (Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board) electrified tram and a cart loaded with sacks, one showing the front of the tram with smashed windscreen & the cart being unloaded in the midst of a group of onlookers with the conductor's back facing the camera, the other showing the side of the tram partly torn away with man standing on the running board and skid-marks indicating the cart had been pushed quite some way down the road, both with some bends & aging marks. Terrific social history. [The signage on the cart reads '..RRIE' (= Glenferrie Road) so we expect the incident was in Kew Hawthorn or Malvern] See also Lot 589. (Qty 2)

1914 real photo 'Shifting Day Simpson's Creek' used under cover with message headed "Railway Construction Camp/Newmerella/via Cunninghame/1.6.14" states "...The other side here gives you an idea of the woes of shifting. Kitchen pulled down everything all over the place", minor corner bends. [Excellent Gippsland card. Cunninghame was renamed Lakes Entrance 1.1.1915]

Melbourne Suburban - Balwyn: c.1920 'WHITE HORSE ROAD BALWYN' Valentine's real photograph postcard showing an electrified 'No 66' tram heading to 'MONT ALBERT' on dirt road alongside horse-drawn buggy, sent under cover with writing indents on the face. Very few early Balwyn cards have been recorded. ['Bal' (Gaelic) & 'wyn' (Saxon) = home of the vine. The message states "This is a view of the town of Balwyn but it [the town] is not very good. It has grown considerably since this was taken...". The tramline was extended to Mont Albert on 30.9.1916. In 2011, Balwyn's post office was saved by the intervention of the local member, now Treasurer, Josh Frydenberg]
