Cat No:1901
1901 AU+ on what appear to be dipped or cleaned surfaces. Determination is difficult because the coin has a layer of whitish haze on it heavier on the obverse. The 1901-P Morgan is one of the scarcest issues in high grade despite a large mintage of close to 7 million coins. Speculation is that virtually the entire mintage of 1901-P was a casualty of the Pittman Act of 1918 which resulted in the melting of over 270 million silver dollars and the bullion subsequently exported to India (then in the British Commonwealth) to back the Rupee during WW1.
