AWARDS: Pair of Channel 7 cuff-links, each with an Argyle white diamond of 25 points mounted in Kalgoorlie gold. Gifted to Gary Fenton on his farewell to the Seven Network to work at Channel 9, where he was instrumental in the station acquiring the broadcast rights to the 2000 Sydney Olympiad. Accompanied by a letter from Channel 7 signed by chairman "Kerry Stokes" that states "...I have had them made. There is only one pair and it is appropriate that it should go to a person who is one of a kind". Ex Gary Fenton collection.  Gary Fenton was a giant of the Australian television industry. Producer of star-studded 'specials', home-spun mini-series and documentaries, he was best known for his roles as Head of Sport at national broadcasters Channel 7 and Channel 9. He produced TV coverage of nine Summer & six Winter Olympics, and is widely credited as having run the best-ever Olympics coverage, at Sydney in 2000. He was also a passionate fan of Australian Rules Football, and one of this country's leading collectors of sporting memorabilia. We at Abacus Auctions are delighted to be presenting the major part of Gary Fenton's collection in this sale. The wonderful items offered here include some of the earliest and most important artefacts of our indigenous football code, plus the many television awards he received as a producer. (Image1)
