G.B - Southampton. 1914-16 Stampless covers and cards posted by troops at Southampton, two cards charged the single ½d deficiency, the others all treated as paid including Sept. 1914 cards with red "ARMY LETTER FREE" (3 types, one in three lines), other cards with red "SOUTHAMPTON / PAID" c.d.s (9) or machine, four of these with straight line or circular "ON ACTIVE SERVICE". Also a 1918 stampless card from a French soldier, posted from Southampton to France with violet circular "ADJUTANT / REST CAMP / 17 SEP. 1918 / Reg. No. / SOUTHAMPTON". (16).

G.B. 1941 (Aug 6) Registered cover franked ½d + 5d, each cancelled by the unusual "L.P.R / 6 AUG 41 / LONDON C O / MOBILE P.O / No. 1" rubber type datestamps, two further strikes on reverse, London E.C registration label. Used in London E.C on this one day only at a Mobile P.O when the regular Post Office was damaged in the blitz.

G.B/Japan - P.O.W Mail. 1945 (Apr 24) 1½d Air Mail postal stationery Prisoner of War post card, posted from London to Signalman E.R Lammin in Hakodate Camp, Japan, with violet censored cachet of Hakodate and red censor chop (Tett type 6-11-202). This 1½d card was not issued until April 2nd 1945, and virtually none of these cards were received by P.O.Ws before the war ended in August; David Tett only records one other 1½d card with a Japanese censor, also sent to Hakodate.
