1893-1907 Covers (2) and postcards (6) with "UNITED STATES SEA P.O" duplex cancels (4) and/or postage due handstamps (7), the two 1893-1900 covers cancelled on the S.S "New York" or "St Louis" prior to the establishment of the joint U.S/British service, one with "U.S SEA P.O / T / 3" due mark; the six 1905-07 postcards all with similar due handstamps, one stampless card posted on the S.S "Philadelphia" whilst at Cherbourg with due mark but no other handstamps, the others posted on board (2) or in the USA (3) all franked 2c, four of these charged 3d in England. 1910-13 Postcards with "UNITED STATES / SEA P.O" duplex cancels, both unusually franked by British stamps, the 1911 card posted on S.S "St Paul" with code "4" duplex applied away from the KEVII ½d which was cancelled the following day by a Southampton Paquebot c.d.s, also handstamped "U.S SEA P.O / T / 4" and "INSUFFICIENTLY PAID", charged 1d at Southampton; the 1913 card posted on S.S "New York" with KGV ½d cancelled by code "1" duplex, a Cherbourg transit c.d.s alongside, charged 1d at Southampton. 1905 Picture postcard of Bermuda with G.B KEVII 1d cancelled "TRANSATLANTIC POST OFFICE PLYMOUTH / 1", applied on the S.S "Philadelphia"; and registered front from Belize franked 2c + 5c, missent with similar Plymouth code "3" c.d.s probably applied on S.S "New York", the address partly obliterated in ink. The rarest of all the Sea Post Office datestamps. (2)

1906 Picture postcards with "BRITISH SEA POST OFFICE LIVERPOOL" c.d.s, code "1" applied on R.M.S "Baltic", or code "2" applied on R.M.S "Oceanic", the first franked ½d and charged 1d in London, the second franked 1d but with a Photo applied contrary to regulations so endorsed "Due 1d", altered to "Liable to Letter Rate 2d". Also a 1907 cover franked ½d + 1d pair with "BRITISH SEA POST OFFICE / SOUTHAMPTON" code "7" datestamps applied on R.M.S "Oceanic". (3).

1907 Postcards franked ½d, cancelled by "BRITISH SEA POST OFFICE / SOUTHAMPTON" datestamps, code "2" applied on R.M.S "Teutonic" or code "3" applied on R.M.S "Adriatic", the first with "SPO / T / 6" due mark, the other two with "U.S. SEA P.O / T / 18" due marks, one of these subsequently deleted, no charge collected on any of the cards. Unusual. (3).

1908-14 Postcards franked ½d or 1d (4) all with "TRANSATLANTIC POST OFFICE" c.d.s, code 3, 4 (2), 5 or 6, one card from Belfast to H.M.S "Cumberland" redirected to Bermuda with a "MISSENT" handstamp alongside the code "4" c.d.s of R.M.S "Oceanic". Two covers posted on R.M.S.P Co. ships with cachets and New York Paquebot c.d.s alongside the stamps which were subsequently cancelled on the Transatlantic P.O, one card to France with 10c postage due stamp for the Poste Restante fee, one card only franked ½d but not charged. (5).

1910-14 Postcards franked ½d, with "TRANSATLANTIC POST OFFICE" datestamps code 2, 3 or 5 (2), all with "U.S SEA P.O / T" due marks and charged 1d (3) or 2 cents, one card posted on the last voyage of the joint British /U.S service with 29 August 1914 c.d.s applied on R.M.S "Olympic". (4).

India Letter. 1820 (Apr 6) Entire letter from the Cape of Good Hope to London with fine "ARUNDEL / SHIP LETTER" (S.1) and boxed "INDIA" applied in London, both in black, charged 2/2. Only two examples of this Arundel Ship Letter recorded, both in 1820, this letter unique with the "India" handstamp, illustrated by Robertson. An exceptional India Letter. India Letter. 1825 (Mar 24) Entire letter from Bombay to London "pr Florentina", landed at Arundel Quay (Littlehampton), backstamped boxed "INDIA LETTER / ARUNDEL" (In.1), rated at 1/8 in Arundel, altered to 1/- in London. Readdressed to Sicily, charged 1/11, with red "ANGLETERRE" and Italian handstamps. A very rare India Letter, just three examples recorded, all on letters from this one voyage of the "Florentina", another of these illustrated by Robertson. Photo on Page 62. (Image1)

Avonmouth. 1927 Picture postcard from Santa Marta franked Colombia 4c, and 1929 cover franked Jamaica 1½d, both cancelled at Avonmouth, the postcard with "SHIP LETTER / AVONMOUTH / BRISTOL" and violet "OCEAN MAILS / EX S.S CHANGUINOLA", the cover with violet "OCEAN MAILS / EX S.S CARARE". (2).

Bristol. 1905 Picture postcards of St. Kitts or Jamaica both posted on S.S "Port Kingston" with G.B 1d cancelled at Bristol and handstamped "BRISTOL / SHIP-LETTER". (2).

Bristol. 1905-06 Picture postcards bearing G.B ½d or Jamaica ½d cancelled at Bristol, both handstamped "PAQUEBOT" (Hosking 22, earlier than recorded), fine and scarce. (2).

Bristol. 1924-38 Covers and cards bearing stamps of G.B (5), Colombia (3), Spain, Barbados (2) or Bermuda, with Bristol Paquebot machines (3, Hosking 27, 31), or cancelled in Bristol and handstamped "PAQUEBOT" (8, six types, H.24/6, 28/30), and a card bearing a ship cachet cancelled in Bristol but without any Paquebot handstamp, eleven with "OCEAN MAILS" and/or named ship cachets. 1806 (May 16) Entire letter from New York to Yorkshire, landed by pilot or ship's boat at Bexhill, handstamped "BEXHILL / 66" with oval "SHIP / (crown) / LETTER" applied in London, charged 1/3 (4d ship letter + 11d inland postage). Ephemera and Picture Postcards. 1903-c.1950 Picture postcards (76) including five poster type cards with views of Portugal, Spain or France, or for tours "1000 miles up the Amazon"; also advertising brochures and timetables (9), menus (2), 1914 S.S "Hildebrand" Christmas card, 1941 Lloyds Certificate for S.S "Boniface", etc. (94).

Brazil. 1853-72 Stampless entire letters (3) and an entire, and an entire letter bearing uncancelled 10r and 50r stamps, from Para (4) or Ceara to Portugal (4) or France. Carried on the Paraense, Jerome (2), Lisbonense or Maranhense, the entire to France sent via G.B with London and Liverpool Ship Letter datestamps, the others with 80 (2) or 160 (2) reis charge marks, three with "P. TRANSATLANTICO" c.d.s, the other with disinfection slits and green octagonal "BARCA / DO / PORTO / 10", one with scarce octagonal framed "GRAMPARA". (5).

Brazil/G.B. 1873-79 Entire letters (2) and an entire from G.B to Lisbon or Brazil despatched on the "Augustine" (2) or "Clarense", franked 6d, 8d (6d + 2d late fee) or 4d sage-green. (3).

Brazil. 1878 Cover from Para to Liverpool bearing 100r pair, posted on the Paraense II with the stamps cancelled "466" upon arrival at Liverpool, backstamped black boxed "LIVERPOOL / SHIP" datestamp (S.18) in error, the correct "PAID / LIVERPOOL / SHIP" datestamp (S.19) in red then applied to the front. Very unusual.

Brazil. 1885-1939 Covers and cards nearly all from Brazil, one 1894 card cancelled "LIVERPOOL / SHIP" c.d.s in black with a second red strike alongside, covers with the red Liverpool Ship arrival c.d.s (4), others sent on the route to New York via Barbados, also some picture postcards. (29).

Barbados. 1895-1916 Covers and cards from Barbados (19) all carried on the Brazil to New York service via Barbados including ½d printed matter rate to Nova Scotia or New Brunswick (3), 1897 cover to Switzerland strangely franked 4¾d, etc. Also 1955-77 covers with various Paquebots (17) and a few postcards. (41).

1773 (May 17) Entire letter written at sea, completed five days later at Madeira, addressed to "Mr P.F Dobree at Thos Dobree Esq., Island of Guernsey, to the care of Mr Wm Seward, mercht at Southampton", the reverse endorsed "Forwd by yr most H.S Wm Seward" with a "17/AU" Bishop Mark, the front with an unusually fine strike of the scarce "BRIGHT / HELM / STONE / SHIP LRE" (S.1), rated "In all 7". Minor staining and light vertical and horizontal folds, an early use of this scarce ship letter, unusual on a letter to Guernsey forwarded from Southampton. Photo on Page 62. (Image1)

1794 (Nov 4) Entire letter from Charleston, South Carolina, to Ilfracombe, handstamped "BRIGHT / HELM / STONE / SHIP LRE" (S.1), vertical fold, upper edge stains and two opening tears; and 1802 (Aug 31) entire letter from Dieppe to Wales with curved "BRIGHTON / SHIP LRE" (S.3, a few letters unclear), interesting contents describing the voyage, Customs officials, and clothing and food in Calais, a little staining. Two scarce ship letters. (2).

1802 Entire to Edinburgh "p. Charlton" with an unusually fine strike of the scarce curved "BRIGHTON / SHIP LRE" (S.3), London (July 15) and Edinburgh datestamps, charged 4/-. A pencil note by Robertson indicates the entire originated in Trichinopoly. Photo on Page 62. (Image1)
