1823-41 Entire letters from India (13) and an entire from Singapore, one large part entire letter with "LIVERPOOL / SHIP LETTER" (S.11) overstruck by "LIVERPOOL / INDIA SHIP LR" (In.1), others with India Letter handstamps In.1 (3), In.2 (2) or In.4/4a (8), one letter landed during the Uniform 4d Post Period charged 8d, one with red "5" applied to mail carried on the Liverpool & Manchester Railway, another redirected in London with two differing "POSTAGE TO LONDON / NOT PAID" handstamps, eight with Calcutta or Calcutta Ship Letter datestamps, mainly fine. (14).

Free Mail. 1838 Entire letter to "The Secretary, India Board, Westminster, London" with boxed "INDIA LETTER / LIVERPOOL" (In.2), a red Free datestamp applied in London, Calcutta G.P.O Ship Letter backstamp. The letter requests that an enclosed letter be forwarded, a clear evasion of postage, with this letter also being treated as a free letter, very unusual on a ship letter. Photo on Page 52. Soldiers Letter. 1836 (Nov 5) Entire letter from Cawnpore to Lancaster headed "From Corporal William Braithwaite, 2nd Troop, 2nd Brigade Horse Artillery, Soldiers Letter", countersigned by an officer, charged 2d sea postage + 1d soldiers rate with boxed "INDIA LETTER / LIVERPOOL" (In.2) and circular "INDIA SOLDIER &c / 3 / LIVERPOOL" (In.5), Calcutta G.P.O Ship Letter backstamp, a good example of this scarce soldiers rate handstamp. Soldiers Letter. 1839 (Apr 26) Entire letter from Kurnaul to Ireland, headed from a soldier and countersigned, unusually endorsed "Ship Letter", with boxed "INDIA LETTER / LIVERPOOL" (In.2) and circular unframed "INDIA SOLDIERS / 3 / LIVERPOOL" (In.6), backstamped at Kurnaul, Calcutta G.P.O Ship Letter and in Ireland. Folds strengthened internally and overall staining, still an unusually fine strike of this very scarce soldiers rate handstamp.
