LETTER CARDS: 1913 1d with view 'ZOOLOGICAL GARDENS/PERTH WA' (oblong) in black illustrated on the face with the sender's wife's portrait, sent to UK with just discernible 'NEWCARNIE/WESTN AUST' cds, opened by splitting the 'WESTERN AUSTRALIA/OFFICIALLY SEALED' label affixed at the base, minor blemishes. An extraordinary botanical usage. [Affixed within are dried wildflowers & four small photographs, three of the elusive & reclusive Herbert Appleby] See also Lots 1-5, 212 & 227.

[This is a very scarce item. 2d envelopes issued in 1913 paid double the 1d rate; those issued in 1919 paid the 1½d rate + ½d war tax; those issued (or used) after 1.10.1920 paid the 2d letter rate]

ENVELOPES - STAMPED TO ORDER: 1916 6d grey-blue linen-lined envelope (235x177mm) with printed 'Wool Sample only' at U/L & a London address, the flap still attached, minor edge discolouration at right - clear of the stamp impression - and at the base otherwise very fine unused, Cat $6000. A key item for the Kangaroo enthusiast. Rare & one of the most sought-after Australian postal stationery issues. [The ACSC states that only "about six examples are recorded", of which at least a couple have had the flap removed. The last example we are aware of sold at a Melbourne auction in 2014 for $7487]
