SARDINIA - ORIGINAL LEAFLET WITH SPECIMENS OF ALBINO "CAVALLINI" MARKS; 3 Dec. 1818 2-page (one double-sided) printed "Manifesto Camerale" Notice printed in Turin having superb Blue strikes of the three smaller second type Cavallini marks on the penultimate page; circular 15c, oval 25c and octagonal 50c, with text explaining (in Italian) how the marks were to be used as a Tax on letters sent outwith the Post Office system by private means. SARDINIA CAVALLINI LETTER-SHEET WITH CIRCULAR 15c MARKING; 18 July 1819 EL (small faults) to Turin ex Pinerolo (both in Sardinian Piedmont) without postal markings (as it should be for these) with a mainly very fine blue circular-framed "[Postboy-on-horse]/C.15" "Cavallini" mark (light filing crease). Scarce example of the official Tax-mark used to prevent the sender of letters by private carriers (such as this) from prosecution by the authorities for infringing the P.O. monopoly of mail-carrying in the Kingdom of Sardinia.
