Santa Maria di Bagni was the largest displaced persons camp in Southern Italy; camp was exclusively Jewish & politically active against British immigration restrictions to Palestine. Relatively early postwar displaced persons mail.

Italy. Postwar/Holocaust Jewish mail: 14.7.1947 airmail cover from PALESE-BARI transit camp (UNRRA camp 197) to HAIFA, franked 25L & tied by 2 strikes of local postmark; slit open at top, a few tears to top-edge. Palese-Bari was a large transit camp known for poor living conditions, food shortages & lack of living space & important stage in illegal emigration to Palestine. Oddly not censored especially during then-turbulent period in Palestine.
