German Occupation of Montenegro. 1944 (June 9) Registered cover from Vir sent to the Red Cross Committee in Geneva, correctly franked -according to the 3.11.43 tariff- with marginal pair of 4L on 3d, tied by bilingual Vir cds, showing three strikes of the registration marking below, censorship closing label with accompanying German "Geprüft!/Postprüfstelle/Selbst. Feld-Kdtr. 1040 Montenegro" three-line cachet in purple at left (this "Kommandantur" having the H.Q. in Cettigne and a detachment in Bar); Vir was a small locality with few hundred inhabitants. One of the very few non-philatelic covers recorded paying the correct rate. (Image)

Italian Partisans: 1943 (Nov)-1944 (Dec) Four covers sent by Italians of the former Divisions "Venezia" and "Taurinense" who refused to fight with the Germans, and formed the "Garibaldi" Partisan Division in December 1943, all except one sent postage free and three showing the P.M. 151 cds applied at Brindisi (Italy), the fourth with a civilian cds, all carried by allied airplanes (the senders indicating the units and the former "P.M. 99" or "Montenegro"). A very rare and fascinating group. (Image)

Italian Partisans: 1945 (Jan 5) Italian folded military postage-free cover sent to Leghorn by a member of the "Garibaldi" Division in Montenegro, carried by allied airplanes with rare "Examined by Allied/Transadriatic censorship" label applied in Italy over the Bari transit cds; very interesting contents including "Our motto is 'antifascism' and we will fight until the extreme (last) breath to defeat that which is still 'nazifascism', to not fall again into the ruin of nowadays, the ruin of our homeland, homes and families, immense catastrophe".
