German Occupation of Kotor (Cattaro). 1944 (March-April) Two surcharged 1L on 30c stationery cards, one sent from Kotor to Herceg Novi with dispatch and faint strike of arrival cds's, the other from Herceg Novi to Italy with German "Platzkommandantur/Cattaro", Vienna and Italian censorships (two closed punch holes and surface rubbing at left, but a very rare non-philatelic usage). 1944 (May 12) Registered express cover from Kotor to Split (Croatia), paying the external registered rate (4 lire postage plus 4 lire registration fee) with surcharged 1,50L on 50c pair in combination with two examples of Italy express 2,50L, tied by Kotor cds's, with German "Platzkommandantur/Cattaro" censorship's marking and Split receiving cds on back, with selvedge from a sheet of stamps used to close the letter at left (presumably by the censor at Split); the only non-philatelic cover recorded bearing a mixed franking with Italian express stamps, one of the most important gems of this territory; signed Caffaz. 1944 (June 26) Registered cover from Kotor to Vrhnika (Ljubljana), correctly franked for the external registered rate with surcharged 1,50L on 50c, pair and single, in mixed franking with Italian airmail 50c single and block of six, tied by Kotor cds's, with German local and Vienna censorships, as well as German bilingual arriving cds on reverse; some faults not detracting from this unique and spectacular mixed franking; signed Enzo Diena and Sorani; ex Buttironi. 1945 Yugoslavian Provisional Period: Two covers sent after the evacuation of the Germans during the period in which no stamps were available, one sent to Split on 1.3.45 when the War in Europe was not over yet, struck with Kotor cds and "Cenzursano" censor's marking with signature; the other sent from Trogir to Pola, with corresponding departure cds and taxed on front with Italian postage dues 2L strip of five tied at Pola, a territory which was under the control of an allied government and where Italian values were tollerated.
