1901 (July 22) Artists Essay for the KEV11 1902-11 3p value, comprising a cut down die proof of the 1899 QV 3p in black on glazed card with photographic head of the King and separate hand-painted crown and ornaments inserted in the vignette oval, simulated perforations outside the frame, sunk-mounted in card (57x78mm), with ms "Postage", date and initials on the surround, a unique and highly important essay, produced over 12 months before this stamp was actually issued, ex De la Rue archives. 1874-76 Jammu old rectangular 1/2a emerald green watercolour on native paper, special printing, a fine example tied to face of orange European-style envelope by Jammu black rectangular seal, sent to Amritsar, with SEALKOTE (SEP 25) transit and "UMRITSUR" (SEP 27) delivery back stamps, showing framed "POSTAGE DUE / 1 ANNA" alongside (as British Indian postage had not been pre-paid), envelope with some peripheral faults, an attractive usage of great rarity, ex Garratt-Adams (CRL 1993, lot 1129) (SG £2'000 as used single).
