Hong Kong, Branch Offices - Tai O : 1882-96 Q.V. 4c. grey, cancelled by fair to fine large part "Hong-Kong/T" c.d.s. (9.12.99), small pre-print paper fold at top and small faults of little consequence on this great rarity; also included is K.E.VII 10c. bright ultramarine cancelled by "plain" Hong Kong" c.d.s. (without index or date), fine and unusual.
Estimate 3,000 - 4,000

The earliest listed Tai O cancellation in Webb and Proud is the "Tai O/X" double-ring c.d.s., with the earliest recorded use in 1909. This cancellation with a single-ring c.d.s. with a "T" inserted in the index space is similar to the first cancellations of Tai Po ("TP") and "Cheung Chau" ("CC") and possibly may be attributed to the Police Post at Po Chue Tan that existed between 1899 and 1903.
