1840 May 19th One Penny Letter Sheet from Berwick to London, cancelled by a boldly struck red MC addressed to the Earl of Tankerville at Hanover Sq, obverse bears manuscript endorsement 'Langhorns Letters 1840' & numeral '3' presumably added by the Earl to identify the contents, sender & correspondence sequence, reverse with despatch & receiving d/stamp for 19th & 21st May, some creasing & wear, still rather attractive. Piccadilly, London, redirected to Walmer Castle, Dover with the addition of 1841 2d Plate 3 JE with margins almost all around and cancelled with a black MC, envelope is a little crumpled with a couple of small tears at top nevertheless a rare combination, b/stamps incl. despatch & receiving d/stamps. Noted - three similar covers from the same correspondence were sold in Grosvenor auction, sale 41 & 45. (Image)

1845-48 1d red strip of eight GC-GK with irregular margins in places, abnormally pen cancelled with 9 crosses and additionally cancelled with three strikes of the 'Missent to Rugby/and Newcastle RWPO' h/stamp, this apparently is the only example of this h/stamp being used as a cancellation as it was only intended as a 'missent' mark, some creasing present, nevertheless a rare item. 1853 registered cover front & back flap from Glasgow to Liverpool franked 1841 1d reds (10) paying the registration fee & 4d postage rate tied by '159' numerals of Glasgow, obverse bears circular 'REGISTERED AT GLASGOW' u/c in yellow, with the registration book number '149' in m/s ink in centre, reverse bears Glasgow dispatch c.d.s. for Aug.2 & Liverpool arrival for AUG.3.53, cover has horizontal crease affecting single stamp at lower left.
