Rear Admiral Aubrey Fitch 1942, Censored Cover, sent to his wife July 2, 1942, franked with #C25, addressed to his wife. Fitch was the Commander of the U.S.S. Saratoga aircraft carrier, which was torpedoed in Jan. 1942. He then commanded the USS Lexington aircraft carrier, which was sunk at the Battle of Coral Sea May 8, 1942. He took command of the USS Saratoga (after repairs) in June and left Pearl Harbor July 7, destined for the Battle of Solomon Islands and Guadalcanal. Clean cover (Image)
